What happened to the "game" in "video game"?

It seems like every gamer considers things like story and graphics and multiplayer to be the most important components of a good video game, when the game part seems to get left behind.

For instance, I love to play a good shooting game. Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, and Gears of War are amongst my favorites. But out of those, Gears is the longest, and it's a little over 10 hours on your first playthrough. Really? Ten years ago, ten hours was considered too short. Now, it's considered just right. The gameplay is great in these games, but it just doesn't last. Multiplayer does not, in any way, shape, or form, make up for a short game. No game should need to stand on multiplayer alone. I don't care if it's Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament, it ought to be against the law to concentrate on multiplayer.

So, in my quest to find a long game well worth my hard earned money, I bought (over a period of a few months) Fallout 3, both Mass Effects, Oblivion, and I'm looking at Dragon Age. Never before has an RPG held my interest, but that's because I’ve always associated RPG with "stand in a line and take turns punching each other with a menu button." This concept was one I hated, and still do, but the WRPG's that I've got are immersive, interesting, and expansive. But the actual game parts are still a bit lackluster. Out of all of them, only Mass Effect 2 could really work without any story or dialogue. I'm also having a hard time calling ME2 an "RPG" with a straight face, more like a story driven third person shooter. The "take cover" style of game play just doesn’t work anywhere near as well as it does in Gears 2. It isn’t bad, by any means, but if you’re going to rip off a game you might as well go all the way, and ME2 only half-heartedly does it. In Gears, you can roll away, crouch and run, crouch in cover, and the camera swings to the right or left of your character depending on where and how you are aiming. ME2 doesn’t have any of this, only the basic “back against the chest-high wall” maneuver.

What I’m saying is that nowadays, games are too focused on the “other stuff”. I’d like a game that’s as long as Oblivion, as polished as CoD4, controls as well as Gears 2, has a story as expansive and interesting as Mass Effect, and just drops any thoughts of “multiplayer” whatsoever. Any suggestions, and who agrees?

Sorry for the incredibly long question. I have one more - Is Dragon Age turn-based at all?|||1. Halo: CE had the best story of the three primary Halo games and those you mentioned in the first paragraph. I understand that it's an arguable point, but I'm speaking from a strictly structural point of view.

2. Campaigns in video games are getting shorter because the plots in the stories are more interesting and, as such, need to be more condensed to maintain pacing and flow.

3. Agreed, multiplayer does not define the game experience. You should understand, however, that the casual gamer is the largest demographic to play video games and the competitive gamer is the largest demographic to purchase games when they are first released. Highlighting good multiplayer is a marketing tool, as well as an extension of a game's primary function.

4. The cover system employed by Gears and ME2 was pioneered by an underappreciated game called KillSwitch, which was then revolutionized by Ubisoft for Rainbow Six: Vegas. Gears is by no means original and ME is not copying Gears. RS:V2 was far more successful than either of those games. Cliff Bleszinski said himself he took inspiration from RS and made the cover system more like a game of paintball, which multiplayer strongly represents: People hiding behind cover until some one hacks you to bits with a chainsaw

5. A game can't have everything. I don't think, and hundreds of thousands of other people will agree with me, that a game like Oblivion is incomplete or lacking in any way. MW2 certainly has multiplay failings, and the character in gears 2 doesn't move quickly enough in multiplayer for my tastes. There are plenty of single player games out there that are interesting and have multiplayer, like MW2, RS:V2, and Gears 2, that don't hurt the experience of the story. Halo: Reach and ODST are great examples. Just don't let the multiplayer bother you.

6. I never experienced turn-based strategy in DA, and I don't believe it was ever marketed as such.|||Whether the game stands on multiplayer, partially or alone, is dependent on what the game is. Left 4 Dead and Team Fortress 2 are amazing games. They are great games that are multiplayer. If you haven't played L4D 1-2 or TF2, you are cheating yourself out of fantastically balanced game play either in co-op or versus.

I'm not entirely certain what you mean by "actual game parts" or the notion that a game like Mass Effect 2 or any RPG would need to be judged without dialogue or story. RPG's are about telling stories. Games, though defined by interactivity, are frequently considered vessels for telling stories. If you don't want story, play Tetris. Or pong.

Gears of War did not invent cover systems, and utilizing a common mechanic does not mean that you are trying to rip off another game, or that you did not do it as well.

If you have trouble calling Mass Effect 2 an RPG with a straight face, that might be indicative of that fact that you do not know what an RPG is:

"A role-playing game (RPG) is a broad family of games in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting. Players take responsibility for acting out these roles within a narrative, either through literal acting, or through a process of structured decision-making or character development" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Role-playin…

Huh. Sounds an awful lot like taking on the role of Commander Shepard. Choosing Paragon, Regegade or neutral resolutions to various situations in-game to progress a narrative. Also, it has the common RPG elements of customization, party and equipment configuration.

No, Dragon Age Origins is not turn-based. Yes, it is an RPG. Lots of the aforementioned mechanics will be present. Not alot of ducking behind cover and shooting things.|||If you buy Civilization V and set it on the right length, it could take days, if not weeks. Oh and If you are hoping for a FPS with no multiplayer? :) Good luck!

HAHAHA|||I agree to an extent, but I think you're just a bit too picky lol. To me, the Mass Effect games aren't supposed to be like the Gears games. They're two TOTALLY different type games, and the "take cover" aspect isn't all that important in Mass Effect. And you can't completely drop multiplayer, but I get what your saying. But just think about Halo without multiplayer. It wouldn't be Halo. Sure, I'd like a better campaign gameplay, but multiplayer is SO much more important in a game like that. That's why people play it, because they wanna get together with their friends (whether it be in person or online). If they could package all those things into a game, that'd be awesome I'd definately buy it, but game makers focus on multiplayer because that's what appeals to the majority of gamers nowadays.|||That may be your opinion. There are plenty of games that don't involve multiplayer if you don't want to use it. Multiplayer, and specifically online Muliplayer and MMORPG ensure that people will play the game for longer periods of time without moving on, so that game and console companies can make money from subscriptions and DLC.

Another part of it might also be that nowadays, Game Worlds are more open and have a lot more Eye Candy than they did long ago. There's more to explore, do, and see.

Which laptop is better for gaming?

I'm planning on buying a laptop, probably one of these two. Which one in your opinion is better for playing Dragon Age: Origins and for gaming in general? Either of these should be enough I think but I'm not really an expert. I also have some doubts about the GPU.

I know that a desktop is better for gaming but I can't get one for several reasons.

Which would you buy? (Computer or laptop question)?

I've been wanting a new laptop/computer for a while now and have a computer and a laptop that I'm stuck with. I just can't choose which to buy. As I have a small bedroom, putting the computer in would be hard work, but it is rather good. I'm not sure If the laptop would come anyway near the computer? I'm wanting to use it for gaming, like Rome: Total War, Dragon Age: Origins and MMO's like LOTRO and Star Wars: Old Republic etc and obviously general internet uses, Facebook/Tumblr etc. At the moment I have a nice little Toshiba (Perfect for internet browsing and some games but it couldn't handle Dragon Age 2. I will still keep this laptop though.

Thank you for taking your time to answer this.|||Definitely the Alienware. Mainly because I've never heard of Advent and just looked it up and not getting good reviews. At least Alienware is a known company here in the states and are more gaming oriented. It also has a better graphics card.

What would be the best choice of Graphics Card?

I'll be getting my tax return next week, and I've been looking to upgrade my PC for a long while now.

My graphics card isn't as high-end as I would like. I will be upgrading it, and would like some advice.

My price range will be anywhere from $100 to MAYBE $300. And my requirements are such: Runs high-end, and other ones, PC games at max-quality, with ZERO screen-lag. High FPS. Now, games I'm talking about are, ones like Mass Effect 1%26amp;2, Bioshock, Fallout 3, World of Warcraft, Left 4 Dead 2, Dragon Age Origins, Team Fortress 2, etc. And supports at least DirectX 10. MAYBE 11, since I heard news of that being way better than 10? But 11 support might jack the price up, so I don't know.

A card I have been looking at is the Radeon HD 4850. Now keep in mind, I don't know a whole lot about graphics cards. Just looking for the performance that I have always desired in my computer.

Also, it might be required of my PC to upgrade either my RAM or Processor, though I doubt it. Intel Core 2 Duo at 2.66GHz, and 2gigs of RAM. Might I need a better processor/more RAM?|||I have the ATI 4870X2 2GB, I have to say its impressive, but you need a cool running case to handle it.

I would suggest you get more ram if you MB can take it.|||I have a core 2 duo 2.8 and 4 gigs of ram. After alot of research 6 months ago I picked up a 9800 GTX+ 1 GB for about $180 (I think $150 nowadays) and the poor thing SCREAMS fast at 1920x1080 with even the best games. Plus it works with mac os x (a personal bonus to me). Check out its reviews!

Oh, and get your stuff at newegg. Its super cheap and has never let me down.|||For less than $200 you can get an nVidia GTX 260 card. These are high end video cards with GDDR3 memory, and will allow your game choices to play without pause. If you buy this card and you see lag, pause, or delay; it won't be from the video. You do however need an available PCI-e slot on your motherboard.|||ATI Radeon HD 4890 my friend : ) you wont be sorry, thats a promise. Happy gaming.

HP dv6tse or Dell Studio 15?

I am looking at buying a new laptop for college and am stuck between two different configurations from HP and Dell. I will mainly be using this laptop for web browsing and typing up assignments but I am also a light gamer (I play Sims 3 and Dragon Age: Origins) so I need decent graphics as well. $5,777.00|||It would play the WOW just as well as a $1500-2000 computer, here's why. WOW is a game that doesn't recieve a huge performance boost from a multiple graphics card setup. Here's a link to a benchmark of WOW running 2-way SLI with a GTX 580 vs. a single GTX 580. Adding a 3rd card would probably get you just a few more extra FPS.

Normally, you would see a 50%-90% performance boost by adding a second card. With WOW you're getting 30% at the most. Also, you will never visually see the difference once you go over 60FPS. A single GTX 580 is giving you 100FPS on a 2560x1600 monitor, that's impressive.

I'm sure a setup like this is a dream to most people as well but there is a lot better ways to spend close to six grand then on this.

Looking for a PC game which is hard and relentless, but fun and rewarding.?

Read: looking for a PC game like Demon's Souls.

I've looked at thread after thread on similar topics elsewhere, but have struck no mother lode in terms of actually finding a game. So, here's what i'm seeking:

    1. Something similar in genre to Demon's Souls - action RPGs, that sort of stuff.

    2. Something which requires a fair amount of reflex, skill and coordination - blocking at the right times, dodging, etc.

    3. Something which doesn't offer an easy way out and is ruthless - for instance, dying causes you to lose everything you have, etc.

    4. If there is a combat system, it should be fun. Demon's Souls is fun - it's open combat.

    5. TROLLSTORM INCOMING: Decent graphics. Story gameplay blah blah, but every game released now-a-days has decent graphics, and in this the gaming market has instilled a standard which i seek and require. I'm not saying graphically older are BAD - just that i won't ENJOY them as much. So i want gameplay + GRAPHICS (possibly story, but DS didn't have much of that.)

Based on these criteria, and personal preference, the following games are ruled out:

    1. World of Warcraft - why would anyone suggest this? I don't know, but i've seen it as a response to other threads. NO WAY. Played it, got bored. GRIND GRIND GRIND. LK + Cata take away any difficulty, so on so forth.

    2. Vindictus - seen this one offered before. Was fairly fun to play, but just didn't have the ruthlessness of DS. Everything aside from SOME bosses was more or less a walk in the park. Furthermore, there are restrictions on competition with other players, instilled by the donator shop that Nexon is so proud of. The one who has the largest bank account wins, generally.

    3. Dragon Age (Origins or 2) - Playing it right now and finding that while the story is immersive and interesting and combat is complex and requires strategy and coordination, it's just not for me. Yes, the combat meets the criteria - but it's hardly relentless and challenging. Pause, get a cup of tea, browse the Argos catalogue and queue up some orders. I'm not looking for all out hack'n'slash gameplay, but atleast something closer to that than Dragon Age.

    4. Diablo (1 or 2) - Played and completed both (1 was far more challenging than 2, which really shows the way games are going in terms of difficulty.) Yet again, the combat isn't quite suiting to what i'm looking for - too much button smashing and not much timing or perfection required. When you get to a high level the game becomes an easy-*** faceroll and repetitive grinding.

    5. Morrowind/Oblivion - played both. Far too open-ended to instill me to do anything at all or progress with the storyline. Enemies become easy-*** faceroll too quickly. Modding can improve this drastically, but i found myself much more involved with looking for b etter and better mods than actually PLAYING the game.

    6. Any NWN, Baldur's Gate, blah, blah, blah. Rpg? Yes. What i'm looking for? NO.

Don't start arguments over why i'm wrong. This is my personal preference; I've sucked all the joy i can from these games, and they just don't fit into what i want anymore.

So... challenging, relentless, fun %26amp; rewarding, active and skill-requiring. FOR PC, NOT CONSOLE. If any of you millions of people can quench my thirst for this elusive game, i will metaphorically grant you the title 'Winner of Life'. And give you best answer. ;)|||Have you tried 'The Witcher' or the sequel when it comes out this year or even Dynasty warriors, not sure how that plays on a PC, but with the difficultly ramped up it could pose the challenge you are looking for.|||Personally, I'd say assassins creed. Part1, but especially part2. (there's also a part3, but I haven't played it yet) Good story, nice game play and not to easy.|||this doesn't really meet most or any of your criteria but have you ever tried the myst series.check them out and see what you think.if i have wasted your time im sorry.hope this helps.|||metal gear solid 4 because it is the best game with the best story, and character development and is challenging if you play on hard mode, having to play without being caught, you get rewarded with new weapons and other things.

Also, try sports games, a cricket simulation or football game.

Which Game Should I Buy ?

Pls Order The Following Games From Best to worst... (im not sure whether im gonna buy 1 or 2 )

NOTE- From Single Player Perspective ONLY!!!

    -Assassin's Creed Brotherhood(I Haven't played AC:2 But i have played AC:1

-Dead Space 2(I haven't Played DS1 but have played Resident Evil 5,Left For Dead 2)

-Dragon Age 2 (I Hav Played Dragon Age:origins)

-Bulletstorm (I haven't playes Unreal Tournament 3 , but i Have Played Gears Of War 2)

P.S.- I Would prefer Long games %26amp; Games That have high Replay Value.. so pls giv me a better idea about these games :D

Thanks a Lot!! :) :D|||from a single player perspective, i'd order them in the following way:

    -Dragon Age 2

total gameplay is atleast 20 hours. that's if you don't do all the side missions. if you do, then it's about 60 hours. plus it's way better then dragon age: origins.

    -Assassin's Creed Brotherhood

about 15 hours long, plus you get to be an assassin. what's more fun than killing people virtually?!

    -Dead Space 2

about 9 1/2-10 hours long. you get to destroy aliens and its great if you like games like that.

    -Bulletstorm

only about 6-8 hours long. it's like halo, borderlands and call of duty mixed together and i find it pretty lame. it's not worth $60, and the only reason i'd get it is to get the gears 3 beta. and i still questioned getting it. i got it, kept the code, and then returned the game to gamestop the next day. don't bother with it unless you like the REALLY like the games i previously mentioned. Halo, borderlands and call of duty.

    hope i helped :)

-Brittney|||i would say Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. although u should play Assassin's Creed 2 first or u won't understand very much of the story.

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood is pretty long and has a bunch of side stuff. plus collecting stuff like going around looking for flags. its really fun. but like i said. play Assassin's Creed 2 first to understand the story|||I'm addicted to AC Brotherhood. I love it!! But it takes off right where AC 2 ends so if you didn't play it, you won't know the characters and the reason for vengeance and all that good stuff. You should really play 2 first, I'm sure you can get it used and a fairly good price. I just turned my back into Gamestop for credit.|||Go with Rift.. it is the best upcoming game out there and is getting crazy reviews. It takes all the best parts of wow and war-hammer and puts them in one game.|||Assassin's Creed Brotherhood very long game lots of side quest and many extras|||Bulletstorm or Dead space 2|||assasins creed brotherhood all the way!!!!!!|||Depends on what kind of gamer you are.

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood is mainly for casual gamers, no matter what anyone says, it is extremely easy, but long and can be fun, but it can get repetitive sometimes and has no reply value.

Dead space 2 is nothing like left 4 dead or resident evil, it is kind of scary, but only because of cheap scares, just stuff popping out to scare you and cut you to pieces, if you are looking for a scary game, get Amnesia the Dark descent for PC, builds up great atmosphere and very scary, look it up.

I can't say anything about Dragon Age since I've never played any one them.

Bulletstorm is more hardcore gaming if you will. It's not very hard, but is different from what people usually play, I believe there is a demo for it right now, so try it out.

Why do my games occasionally lag for a short time?

I've recently had this happen to all newer games I try to play on my laptop. It's an Asus G50V with the following specs:

    Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit

    Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 (2.53GHz)

    4GB DDR3 RAM

    NVidia GeForce 9700M GT

The last game it played just fine was dragon age 2. Games like minecraft also don't cause any problems. Crysis 2 and Portal 2 however, have been giving me the same treatment constantly. The fps drops to 5 and below for about 20 seconds, every 5 minutes or so, and then it just goes back up to normal, playable values. Here's a list of the things i've already tried:

    Installed all windows updates

    Installed latest GeForce drivers

    Installed latest version of directX

Defragmented the registry and both hard drives

De-installed all useless programs and turned of everything I don't need.

Set the priority of games to high in the task manager

Increased the page file size to 2x the amount of RAM on minimum and 4X on maximum

The old beast is generating quite a lot of heat, but I opened the case up two months ago to give it a full cleaning. Afterward I had no problem playing both Assassins Creed Brotherhood and Dragon Age 2, so it seems hard to believe that heat is still a problem. Any thoughts guys?|||Do you have a 5400 RPM HDD? That was the problem for me. Set your laptops power settings to "high performance", or replace the HDD with a 7200 RPM one.|||because the more hotter your pc get the lesser performance. and also about the setting you use in it.

and also some games are very bad coded. like gta IV.

o and one tihng. you processor is really weak. buy a core i3 or i5 that will solve all the lag.

and if you have virus in the pc remove it and defrag registry etc.|||Your system may be congested. Clean it with reginout to make it lean %26amp; quick and reduce lag.|||Possibly it might be your CPU. Core 2 duo's are good but not for serrious gaming, if you want games that run smooth then go for core 2 quad and i series. all you other specs look fine. oh..and also try 64bit version of whindows so that you can make use of the full capacity of you ram, casue i presume with that 32bit of windows you have there you might be using only 3GB of the 4GB of ram you have installed.

I want it to be at least less than $1300.

Since I live at California tax will add a $100.

How is my build? I want to find where do I need to save. But there are some exeptions.

*I want a good hard drive that'll run at high RPM and high cache.

*Just a fairly good GPU till I can upgrade to a more high end GPU.

*A good cooler CPU that'll be in a very warm room at some days.

*At what places can I choose a lower product for a sufficient price tag.

*I'm not going to over clock the CPU, it's in a promotion of free upgrade.

I will be playing games on it(With few mods that'll strain some high-end PCs.), video editing and rendering, hearing music, and browsing the internet.

Some games I might play are The Sims 2 %26amp; 3, Dragon Age series, The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion %26amp; V Skyrim, Fallout 3, GTA 4, and more upcoming games.

I will be using Sony Vegas Movie Studio Plantinium HD Suite.

Maybe MMOs and do schoolwork and browse the internet.

I will put more RAM later, maybe.

How much Power Supply do I really need if I upgrade to a new GPU later with this build?

Which Cooling Fan can I choose?

I can accept other builts from others as recommend or suggestions.

I hope anyone can help at improving this built and lowering the price if possible.|||1: need to get a better case make it a full tower or at least a HAF 922

2: if you can spend a bi money i suggest to get a GTX 560 rather than 550ti so you can play BF3

3: if you want you get get an H-60 water cooling kit or if you want air cooled at a V8 ( its big so your gonna need a bigger case

    4:eh idk

5:theres no need to over clock your CPU unless your a ahrd core gamer who plays 24/7

6: If you want to play up coming game i highly suggest you get a GTX 560 Ti ( it is even recommended for Battle Field 3 ) an i also use one trust me i play BFBC2 eveything on max at 1080 with FPS exceeding 60

7: lmaoo 850watt is more than enough to put another videocard

8: and what you mean by cooling fan ?? jsut get like 200mm or something idk

    __________

if you want to lower price you can always get a barebone and throw some parts in

good luck|||i suggest the gtx 590 evga liquid cooling overclocked classified edition i have it and its so flipping amazing running bf3 at 130fps on ultra|||you can... build it urself :D itll be a lot cheaper|||if you are not going to overclock:

*you dont need a K series cpu, get i7-2600

*you dont need that cooler master v6, stock cooler will be sufficient.

*you dont need z68 motherboard, you will be fine with h67 motherboard.

*you dont need 1600MHz RAM, intel support 1333MHz RAM at max at stock settings.

*you are going to upgrade your gfx card in future, i would suggest you to take card from AMD radeon, so that you can crossfire any future card from same family unlike nvidia where you strictly bound to use same low end gpu. Goodluck!|||building yourself can cost a lot more. but you get the system you want.

the video is about mid high end. you are doing ok on the cpu.

I am no expert at matching video cards to systems, but I know that the gtx580 is the top end card $500-600, and you should make sure your PSU can handle whatever video card you choose (read the video specs first and add about 80W for stability!). If you are on a budget and can't afford to upgrade video now, that's fine.

ram: make sure you can still get the same timing and hopefully kind as well. systems don't like memory mixtures. I would put all the ram in now. otherwise, you may end up replacing all the ram later. the 8GB sticks have not come out yet that I have seen.

the cooling fan in the boxed cpu sets last a long time, and they work pretty well. they are made for the proc. zalman fans are also high quality (but large and usually a little too heavy) and made for overclocking.

the 550Ti requires 400W so you should use a minimum 550W PSU. with hard drives, optical drives and stuff, try the PSU calculator.

by the way, if you are going to college, you are probably not going to have much time for playing games. (at least you shouldn't be) I spend my time experimenting with what I learned. I retained what I learned longer and I learned more than just doing idle rote (and I got more excited about what I learned and found new ways to apply it).

I think you've got plenty of power for your system. I have a relatively new 80 plus certified 550W PSU on a 250W system. sometimes it makes noise due to the low usage I think (old system, much lower power requirements).
  • argus
  • subway application
  • Why is gameplay choppy on the PS3?

I know this has been asked over and over and over again, but most of these answers are BS. (Surprise, it's the internet, people don't know anything), but I've yet to find as sufficient answer, which is hard to believe since millions of these things have been sold, and the chances of -this- PS3 having something wrong with it are slim to none.

I have a 2010 model 1080p/120hz refresh rate TV, this model after a couple of minutes of searching, has no major display problems, it can handle blu-ray movies just fine along with seamless frame-rate on game-play mode when connected to my computer via high-speed HDMI playing Starcraft II (With Ultra settings 1080p display with 200+ units on screen). So it's not the TV, and it's not the HDMI cable I use.

My girlfriend bought me a PS3 (160 gig) for my birthday last month, along with a handful of games. Now, before I played anything, I like to play with all the settings, made my PSN account, etc.

I'll list all the display settings so you can get a more accurate description:

    Video Output: HDMI

    RGB Full Range (HDMI) Full

    Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr Super-White (HDMI) On

    Deep Color Output (HDMI) Automatic

The PS3 is constantly connected to high-speed internet (20-25 mb/s Download, 4-5 mb/s Upload speeds on average) via ethernet cable.

When the PS3 is on, it has a clearance of 1 foot in each direction, in a heavily air conditioned room (With the filters cleaned last month, so the fans couldn't have possibly clogged up already)

Now, with most games I get flawless gameplay, Infamous 2, MGS 4, etc.

But when I get to LA Noire, and Dragon Age (Original) [Yes I know, I'm really late, and it's a lot better on PC, but I saw it for 30 bucks and I never actually knew anything about the game, so I got it]

I get choppy gameplay. Now, I would understand if it was during heavy displays (A giant fire covering the screen... or let's say, a very demanding movie-esque cutscene), but this is literally while I'm driving down a mildly populated 4-lane avenue. Or, when I have 4 party members, and I'm simply walking through the forest (wilds). To be more specific, the screen jumps, for just a fraction of a second, and returns to normal = choppyness. And during this time, the frame-rate is lowered. It wouldn't bother me, if it was every-so-often, but it literally jumps every 3 seconds. When I stop moving, and turn the camera around, the frame-rate returns to normal.

Now, I realize the makers of these games make them for well-built custom gaming rigs, and water it down for the console versions, and during heavy fight scenes, or demanding visual effects, the console struggles to keep the display running on par, but what irritated me was the fact that it only needed Dragon Age to have a lake in the background for the screen to chop constantly. After 30 minutes or so, it gets a little unnerving.

So: My question is: Are these 2 games (LA Noire/Dragon Age) really too demanding for the PS3, or is there a known issue behind this? (Sometimes gameplay is choppy when connected to the internet, even though the game is single-player, or... the PS3 is allergic to newspapers, etc) Is there a certain display option that stresses the PS3's graphics capability (Which seems stupid for Sony to include these things for gameplay)? Are there other variables I've yet to take into consideration? Thanks for any information you've provided (even if you don't answer the question)

A little Misc. info: I've never stepped on, hit, banged, dropped, scratched or otherwise caused physical harm to the PS3 unit. It is laying down flat. All the games I've played on the PS3 are new, there were no scratches on the CDs. Both the TV and the PS3 check for firmware updates daily. I do not burn candles, or anything else in the same room as the PS3. I have no pet. It IS next to a broken 360.. so maybe I should move that in case of any bad mojo. I bought Dragon Age Ultimate edition, so it has all the content patches, and expansion pack (If there is a known issue there). When playing the PS3, I do have my TV on "Game-play" mode to maximize frames-per-second.

Please do not answer this question if:

You have no idea what you're talking about

If you think there are more than 2 types of HDMI cables (without ethernet/automotive)

If you're going to bash either the 360 or PS3

If you're going to advise me to get a Wii

Thanks again everyone.|||The choppiness is the games problem. Its usually the game developers fault for not taking the time to smooth out the frame per second. One great example of horrid choppy gameplay is Mafia II. It is horrible. Some games that are complete still have some chop to it but not as bad as others. So your doing nothing wrong it is the game that is at fault and the rush to put out the title which really shouldn't happen in some cases.

OH YEAH just so you know if you downloaded dragon age: origins they compress the game so it can be downloadable it may be the reason that it is choppy. Also I remember playing this on disc it was choppy when I played it on disc.|||Maybe there's a problem with your PS3, or have you patched the Dragon Age? I don't own the game but L.A Noire was very smooth, and I have an older, fat PS3.

The CPU GPU relationship in the context of performance in PC games... To upgrade my CPU or not?

    Hello everyone.

NOTE: My phenom ii x2 555 BE cannot unlock stably under any voltage, already tried, currently running it slightly overclocked at 3.5ghz.

I recently upgraded from a Radeon 5670 to a shiny new GTX 560 Ti and have seen absolutely huge performance improvements in games (as I should have). In fact as it stands I can run anything I've tried at 1920x1080 on the highest settings (Dawn of War 2, The Witcher, Dragon Age Origins, Dead Rising 2 among others). Many of these titles aren't brand new and with many releases this year on the way that I'm looking forward to such as Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect 3, The Witcher 2, Dawn of War 2 Retribution, Deus Ex Human Revolution and Metal Gear Rising, I'm wondering if my wee Phenom ii x2 555 BE is going to cut it? As far as most of the released system requirements go I'm above minimum, but with my recent taste for higher res and better textures I'd hate to have to dial them down in future.

How much weight does the cpu bear when you are gaming at higher resolutions on higher settings? Will an upgrade to a Phenom ii x4 970 or one of the faster x6s blow my socks off? Will it be that noticeable? Will I be that much better off for the next 12 months?

Being objective here, repeat objective (yes you intel fanboys, provide evidence (links to benchmarks preferably) before you rain praise or scorch amd cpus) would I see much further improvement with an i5 760 say?

I'm happy with my performance as it stands, I get 40 plus frames in everything I run (sits on v-sync 60 90% of the time) so that's decent enough, smooth enough where I don't notice. I'm just wondering if I will be safe with this years releases or should be considering an upgrade...

What do you folk think?|||have been monitoring your CPU? i would start with that. while you're in a game see if you are running between 90-100%, if you are then a new cpu would help, but a 3.5 x2 isnt exactly a slouch ya know?|||I think you could go for a quad core upgrade at some point. Your cpu is the weak link now, but it still ain't no slouch.|||well, it depends on the game itself. some games use some more CPU processing than others. upgrading to a quad or six core CPU will definitely give a very noticeable performance boost not only in games but heavy apps as well.

i suggest getting the x6 amd than the i5. it's faster and cheaper.

Can these benchmarks play games smoothly?

I was wondering which computer would be the best to put my new EVGA E-GEFORCE 9600 GT video card in. I don't plan on playing crysis ultra high max godly settings or w/e but maybe some modern warfare 2 or dragon age: origins. The cpu I on computer # 1 am VERY skeptical of though but I wonder if the video card will make up for it...

    so here it is:

    Computer setup # 1:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium x64-bit

    RAM:3.00 GB (2.75 GB Usable)

CPU: AMD Sempron Processor LE-1300 2.30 GHz

Video card: EVGA E-GEFORCE 9600 GT

This is computer set up # 1 but I was wondering how much better it would be if I did this:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium x64-bit

    RAM:4.00 GB

    CPU: AMD Athlon II x2 250u 1.6GHz

Video card: EVGA E-GEFORCE 9600 GT

Or this, Computer set up # 3:

    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64-bit

    RAM: 2.00 GB

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 x2 dual core 5200+ 2.7 GHz

Video card: EVGA E-GEFORCE 9600 GT|||That's an interesting set of options:

    1) Horrible processor. Avoid at all costs

    2) Slightly better processor than #2 - still lame.

    3) Best processor of the bunch, about what you'd find on a new, entry level laptop. 2GB is the minimum for a 64-bit OS, so going to 3-4 GB could be significant. You'll be able to handle COD:MW2 and Dragon Age fairly smoothly, maybe on Medium settings.|||all pretty bad if your looking for gaming bump up to the i5 or i7. i5 would probably be best cause its cheaper but it can still handle what your going to throw at it.

Adding these games and descriptions to separate variables PHP.?

I'm working on putting the games and descriptions in separate variables but what ever i try dont seem to work. All this does is show all the games and descriptions on screen. Its just suppose to show 1 game but later i want it to go down the list 1 at a time and then add game to database along with a description anyone have a clue on what im talking about or how to do this.

    Bearded Dragon Guestion?

I have no places near me to buy crickets ... does any one have sight onlinr for crickets ?? I do want cheap but if they are not high quality please do not states them too me..

Also what age should you start feeding pinkys 2 the beardie ?? and can u have them frozen?? if so how long du u defrost the 4 in the microwave ??|||http://www.cricketsdirect.com is a good website for crickets.

Pinkies are not required, and are often not recommended due to their high fat. If you ever feed pinkies, never defrost them in the microwave as this cooks the meat. Put them in a ziploc bag and place in hot or boiling water til thawed.|||You don't need to feed pinkies to beardies unless it's a breeding female. A diet of crickets and other insects should be just fine. Feeding pinkies can actually cause problems.

  • How could I turn my laptop into a gaming laptop?

Hi, I am currently using a 17" MacBook Pro (with a Windows XP Professional partition) and wanted to beef it up a little bit more for gaming. I don't wanna go out and spend a few hundred (if possible), but I want to be able to play games like Dragon Age: Origins and Fallout: New Vegas on the highest settings.

2.66 GHz; 4 gb RAM (2.72 GB specifically for Windows) ; NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT; Intel Core2 Duo CPU.. I'll provide any other information needed.

Thank you!|||Sorry mate, don't think it's possible. Upgrading a video card in a normal laptop is already hard and expensive enough. To do that in a highly specific laptop like MacBook Pros will be impossible. Even if it was possible, to get a good enough video card to play those games in highest settings into a laptop that's not meant for gaming would make it impossible.

The MacBook Pro already has a pretty nice video card. However, it's not meant to be upgraded or to run as a performance gaming machine. It's the downside of a mac :)|||well being a woman I cant say to much about it other than, install the latest flash, delete ALL that is unneeded for gaming (Microsoft word etc.) This will give you more memory to play with, probably one of those remotes that connect via usb to the laptop so you can have a joule stick to play with like on an xbox or play station, then don't cost much at all just have a look on ebay or something.

Then I assume just play away. best of luck|||Mac does not have a user-friendly upgrade policy. Opening your system voids the warranty. They basically only allow you to upgrade the memory in the machines.

What should I upgrade to my gaming PC to play 2011 games at highest settings without lag?

    These are my system specs:

    ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series

    Intel Core i5 CPU 750 2.67GHz

    Intel Core i5 CPU 750 2.67GHz

    Intel Core i5 CPU 750 2.67GHz

    Intel Core i5 CPU 750 2.67GHz

    6.00 GB RAM

    Windows 7 64-bit

    ATI High Definition Audio Device

    Realtek High Definition Audio

I'm trying to upgrade some parts instead of buying a whole new PC system because I've only had this PC for about 2 years but it's already starting to lag on certain games like Black Ops and Dragon Age 2.|||Upgrade your video card. The ATI Radeon 6870 or Nvidia 560 GTX are good suggestions|||Your video card is well below par for the games you're talking about.

How about looking for an nvidia geforce GTX 560 Ti. That's a very nice card, very quick and good value.

You'll probably have to budget for a power supply replacement too regardless of which card you go for, most modern cards require 550W+ supplies.

I'd see how you get on with that before splashing out any more money on a processor upgrade.

It's worth reading www.tomshardware.co.uk, they regularly do "Best Graphics Cards for the Money" articles every few months. The 560 Ti is a current favourite, especially since you can buy quite a few pre-overclocked versions.

How much would I need to spend for a good gaming computer?

I am looking to build a solid gaming machine, something that can run some of the more intense PC games on high settings with little to no problem. Games like starcraft 2, dragon age, etc. I don't necessarily just want to be able to run them on highest settings, but I want to run them on no settings with no problems at all, so that more intense games in the future can still be run very well. If I were to buy all of the parts to make the machine myself, about how much would it cost to make a computer like this? Just a general estimate would be great.|||Check out this great website http://www.pc4game.com/ .|||1000-2000 if you build yourself...about 1500-3000 if you want a decent comp to buy which you install the hardware yourself...3000-4000 for a pretty good already made one.

    Reasons runescape is NOT gay?

Im sick of always hear people say "runescape has kiddy graphics" "runescape is gay" bla bla bla.

So i decided to give you reasons runescape is NOT gay so you can shut your ******* mouth.

1: graphics: A lot of people complain that the graphics are bad and that atari can do better, they say it because when they played it they played it in a crap computer, look, if your computer can afford good graphics, go to the sttings menu and click in the computer screen, then put it to high, you will then see that the graphics are now A LOT better that the MIN or LOW version (which was probably the version you played) i know they arent ps3 or xbox graphics, but at least they are better and decent.

2-Gameplay-A lot of people say is kiddy because they started as a low level and we all know that in rpgs the first enemies are always either cute, little, harmless animals, into Dragons, Orcs, high level ghost, theres even a monster called corporeal beast (search in google) that is supossed to be the MOST POWERFUL monster (i havent fighted him yet because you need a quest i do not have yet) the beast is a giant... is hard to describe but to defeat him you need TONS of players

3-here are some words of the developers

The target player is a gamer, who wants a game that will last and is more concerned with good gameplay than anything else. E.g. I would say someone in late teens or early 20s is 'target'. But of course we know lots of people outside that range also play, and we don't really want to restrict to just one age anyway. We want as many people to enjoy the game as possible, and don't think you are ever too old to enjoy RuneScape. To attract that sort of player, we have been undoing some of the 'dumbing down' of the game that was rather unwisely introduced, and really focusing on good varied (intelligent) gameplay."

    -Andrew Gower

"...the real average age is 16. And there's this perception that there's 8 year old boys playing the game and it's mad."

    -Andrew Gower

A word from the CEO of Jagex himself, dated February 9, 2009:

"Another thing that has cropped up in recent times, which we'd like to clear up once and for all, is the common belief that RuneScape is a game aimed at kids. This is absolutely not the case. We can see how this view has fostered, however, thanks to our over-zealous chat filter, Quick Chat worlds, dumbing down of certain bits of humour and storylines, as well as certain areas of the game like the Stronghold of Security, which do provide solid security advice but perhaps come across as a little condescending to the vast majority of our older players. I unreservedly apologise for this and to rectify this we have already removed a number of words from the chat filter and are currently working on reviewing and amending any content we feel is too kid-focused.

RuneScape benefits from one of the most diverse player demographics in the industry and is truly reflective of the worldwide population. As a responsible company we have had to comply with certain regulatory obligations to ensure online safety for any younger players and as a result we introduced Quick Chat for players under a certain age, but this was to meet our legal responsibilities rather than who the game is designed for, its probably also worth noting that we have a total of 4 Quick Chat worlds in a total of 165 RuneScape worlds. As I said earlier, we are gamers at heart and we try to design games and content which we ourselves would enjoy playing.

4-music: is not really that bad, no epic music but at least is better than some mmos with no music, if you dont like it, turn your speakers off or the music and put some rock music ;)

thats all i could think, and if wou want to know if the words in the number 3 really exists, they are in this link in the description

BTW:i also play wow, but i stopped because i felt bored, my friend told me is funnier with friends

Hope that shuts your mouths trolls ;)|||Even though I play the game myself and I enjoy it, I just want to say...

umadbro?|||Okay first off, this isn't a question. Second, I have no idea what Runscape is. Third, who cares what other people think? You just wasted five points just to make a statement that the haters won't even care about it.|||Runescape..

It is so repetative, you do the same thing over and over again to get a little level which does nothing..

It ends up taking hours for 1 level,

sucks|||you spent your time writing a book as a question. I took not time to read it becuse I have a life but I will say this.

no disrespect but... runescape is gay|||This game is horrible.

I quit runescape and before you say I was "low level" I was level 123 with 5 99's and I think I had like 90m-ish when I quit.

The graphics are terrible, the skills are boring and repetitive, a lot of people are rude and like to brag over a fake cape. Also the music is terrible...

Yeah...If you take a break from Runescape for about a month when you log on you will see how nerdy the people are. Runescape dating, people go on and on about their lives to their "friends"...It's like they think they are truly in a real world.

Yeah sad that anyone would spend weeks/months to get a 99 that does nothing.

Oh and you think this will stop the trolls? This is just influencing them even more...

Thinking of updating my PC. Wat would you recommend?

Its old but does what i want it to do.

    Original E6300 1.8gz CPU

    Gigabyte 965 DS3P rev 3.3 motherboard

    4GB (2x2GB) 800mhz memory

    (overclocked from 1.8gz to 3.4gz)

    ATI 3850 512mb graphic card

3 Harddrives (640gb, 320gb...come to think of it the 640gb drives in 2 partitions)

    Windows 7 ultimate 64bit

    TV tuner card

All enclosed in an Antec 300 case with all fans fitted.

No as i said, it can do what it needs to do. I use it for everything from gaming, watching movies, bit of graphic design. Games i play at the moment are Dragon Age: Origins, Fallout 3 %26amp; Nevada, FM 2011, Orange Box, Dragon Age 2, Bioshock 1%26amp;2. and i can play crysis on med/high settings and get about 30-40 fps.

No i know theres alot of new hardware out there and im tempted to upgrade my pc. What would you recommend upgrading?

    As for money... 拢200 max.

Thinking of case modding 1st. Wiring needs sorting out so thought of strippin it all out. Spraying the inner case black, cut more holes out so i can feed the wires behind the mobo and maybe add sound proofing to it.

Also thinking of getting another 4GB of memory. Mobo has 4 module banks for memory and can take upto 16Gb. Then theres the graphics card..... maybe ATI 5770 or 6850...|||WOW!!! DUDE! You overclocked from 1.8 to 3.4?? Unless you have a serious cooling system that processor is going to burn up in a matter of days!! Well, anyway, here's what I think. First of all, make sure you leave your hard drive alone. Getting a bigger hard drive would be a total waste of money because nobody needs hard drives bigger than 320 GB due to the small sizes of files these days. As for your memory, you don't really need more than 8 GB. Let me explain. Your operating system takes up about 1 GB of memory. All your various browsers, documents, and other programs take up another 1-1.5 GB of memory. And then you should have another .5 GB for all your various background programs. So that's 4 GB already. And then your game takes up another 1-2 GB. So, if you want to have plenty of various windows open, and play games at max. settings, you definitely don't need more than 8 GB (even 6 GB would be okay). The real problem is in your video card. Your video card is also alright. You could probably sell yours on eBay for $10-$20, and then spend that money plus some money from your budget to get something better. Here's a fantastic resource: http://www.videocardbenchmark.com/ Now, click on high-end video cards. Find your video card (by searching it in Ctrl + F) and you can see that its rating is 801, which is pretty good. You could change it, but I don't think you have to. The real problem is in your processor. You have a Pentium. No matter how much you overclock it, that processor is useless. The list of useless processors is as follows (from bad to worse): Pentium, Athlon, Celeron, Atom. Those are the worst processors out there. Here's another great resource: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/ It's from the same company that rates the GPUs, but they rate processors, also (and hard drives and systems and even mobile phones!)!! So, click on high-end CPUs. So here is your dilemma. You definitely need a new processor, it would be a good idea to get more memory, and you could use a new video card. You do have a slight problem, though. Your memory is only 800 Mhz. That's very slow. But it would have a minimal impact on performace if you got faster memory and it would cost a lot so whatever. So here's what I would do. I would get 2 GB more memory for $26 from the following website: http://www.compuvest.com/Search.jsp?Sear鈥?/a>

So now you have $300 left. I would get the following processor: Six-Core AMD Opteron 2427 (it has six cores while your current processor has only two!!!!) It's fantastic value for money, because it has a great rating according to PassMark, and is only $122 at Amazon!!!! That's very cheap for a powerful processor like that. So now you still have about $180 left. I would get the Radeon HD 6870. That is an extremely good video card. As you can see it is 12 places from the best video card in the world and it's only $174!!!!! That is great value.

P.S. You might need a better power supply if you're going to get all these components; make sure you look in to that.

Additional Details: FPS Gamer is actually right. If you only upgrade the GPU it will be way too powerful for your processor, and you won't see very much of a change because your CPU will be too slow for the GPU. Your GPUs performance is strictly limited by the performance of your CPU.|||I would not get a 5770 or a 6850 with that low end of a CPU. Your CPU will bottleneck the hell out of your video card.

To be honest if you want good upgrade it sounds like you need to save up some more cash and possibly do a overhaul of your system. That motherboard will support LGA 775 quads but I wouldn't invest the money into old tech form 2008.|||It's pretty much old cpu so you can think to cpu upgrade to. You can think about GPU upgrade 1st after modding but it's nice configuration in my opinion|||A Mac. You'll never go back.|||amd 965 for cpu|||3.4 ghz from a 1.8 ghz processor, quite impressive.

If you want to upgrade the CPU, you can probably scrounge around for a second hand Core 2 Quad Q6600. But it's definitely not a very good investment because the Core 2 series are very outdated, and they have lost their value significantly. I would keep the same CPU for now.

The GPU will probably be the best thing you can upgrade there. Grab yourself a new Radeon card somewhere in the ballpark of 200 pounds and you should see a massive difference in framerates.

You don't need any RAM upgrades, besides the games you play don't require more than 4 gigs of RAM.

  • Why is it that PS 3 has such good graphics (same or better than PC), and still manage to run smoothly?

How come the PS 3's graphics are on the same level, or better than PC games, even though the PS 3 graphics card is only half as powerful as the recent graphics cards? I would say the PS 3 graphics would match any new PC game with graphics turned to the highest setting.

For example, when I play Dragon Age 2 on the PS 3, the graphics are excellent, and so is the performance.

But, when I play Dragon age 2 on my Core i7 computer with 6 Gig ram and Geforce GTX 295, I have to turn the graphics setting to the lowest one, and it still lags?|||Apparently, there are others having problems running this game with NVIDIA cards and it doesn't look like there's a fix. See the link below. Most likely, the game wasn't optimised (coded correctly) for the NVIDIA architecture. The PS3 hardware is much less powerful than a GTX 295, but the game runs well on it's architecture. Ever notice that you can't turn up the eye candy on console systems. PC graphics are way better and you can't game at 2560x1600 on a console.|||Technically that is not true. PC's will always outperform any console for the simple fact that PCs are not locked into their graphics card. Remember that the PS3 and XBox have the same graphics card from 3-5 years ago. They cannot change this ever. When they made the chipset for them back then they were equivalent to the best PC could do at the time. Since time has past newer, better cards have been made for the PC. However, to get them one needs to fork out cash and HOPEFULLY there are developers out there willing to push those cards to their max...which most wont...why? because they need to ensure there are sufficient consumer base to buy their product.

All in all though when you compare games on a whole the PC graphics will logically be better than PS3/XBox....but it is dependent on the developer. For example Crysis 2 cannot be done to the same level on PS3 ...but they certainly can trick the PS3 to remove certain aspects to give the illusion.|||the ps3 has all of its hardware dedicated to running one application- your game. Whereas your PC may be running other applications in the background (explorer.exe, steam, etc.)

I don't know why dragon age would lag on your machine, make sure you're not running anything in the background. Close all applications before you start the game, my friend.|||Because PS3 focuses there's game only on graphics and are often not fun not to mention there on blue ray disc so they can hold alot more.|||the blu-ray disk drive and graphics card combo will do this every time

they don't need to run the memory all over the place just to play a game

I want something that can capably run Win7-64bit, play games like Portal 2, AssCreedBH, Dragon Age II, Fallout:New Vegas, and future releases, all on medium-high video settings. As it would mainly be used for gaming, I need something that could keep up high fps - especially on mmos.

    I'm assuming I'd need quad core, but as for ram %26amp; graphics card, I've no idea - please, not top of the range insanely expensive stuff though - affordable, but something a bit better than my TERRIBLE nVidia 7900. :%26lt;

    Recommend some PC games?

I recently got a new graphics card and I want to really put it to the test.

Sadly, I haven't been up to date on my PC games, buying mostly for my Xbox. So far the highest spec one I can test is Dragon Age 2, and seeing as how I pretty much hated that game, I don't see myself playing a whole game of it.

So any recommendations on some good PC games to test my PC with.

As a reference, my favourite games are:

    Dragon Age: Origins

    Mass Effect 2

    Assassins Creed 2

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time

    Knights of the Old Republic

    Bayonetta

If you have any ideas similar to these it's appreciated but any genre will do generally. Only ones I don't play are sports or racing games really.

    Her arrows pierce skin,

    Her frost pierces the heart,

    And her giant crystal arrow

    is impossible to thwart.

    He may not look pretty,

    He is definitely not nice,

    But Twitch and his poison

make him a god among mice.

He will hide around the map,

    waiting for a chance,

    Blindly shooting he makes

    enemies do a funny dance.

    If you like hearing jokes,

    Choose Shaco the demon jester,

    With his poison shivs

    Enemy wounds will fester,

    He can disappear and reappear

in the blink of an eye,

and when enemies see two of him,

    They are about to die.

    If you like throwing cutlery

    Dr. Mundo is a pro,

He can hack and burn your enemies

And heal up as he goes,

    He is ruthless and invincible

    treating attacks like mere breezes

    The best part about him

is that he goes where he pleases.

This is all the time I have

to describe the champions of this game...

    Hopefully you'll play LoL

And earn your way to fame.|||Dragon Age origins is an excellent game. The storyline is deep and nuanced, graphics are excellent and storytelling is dramatic and well written. Additionally, this edition gives you all the accompanying DLC to further expand the experience. Highly reommend this to any gamer who enjoys sword and sorcery type action/adventure. For achievement hunters, achievements are solidly challenging and varied. To get the full gamerscore would require either multiple playthroughs or keeping save files at particluar junctions of the game where you are required to make choices that lead to branching storylines / results.|||I am a lover for the sims games but nothing goes past World of Warcraft (WOW). WOW is a online multiplayer game. From questing to battlegrounds its a challenge not to get bored unless MO arnt your thing. As far as WOW goes Rift is very similar and has just come out recently. Hope that helps might be best to check out the trailers to them first to see if its your type of thing.|||if you have a nividia gpu get "The Saboture" its like gta and assassins creed had a baby and it got invaded by germany

To do so if your the doctor you do the quests but you also have mini jobs like reserach for 2 hours , and get leeches for the operating table.

Is my Computer good for gaming?

well im not a hardcore gamer, i NEVER USE antialiasing or anisotropic!!!!

    i just like to play in good conditions, i have a core 2 duo e4600 @ 2.40ghz, 2 gb ram and a 440 gt 1gb ddr3 gpu(nvidia).

i can play fifa 11 with 80-90 fps, nfs shift 2 unleashed 25-30 fps, dragon age 2 35-40 fps.

all the games above are in HIGH settings.

    should i upgrade or wait???

if i need to upgrade what should i upgrade cpu, ram, gpu and also i NEED BUDGET SPECS NO i7 OR 560 GT!!!!!!|||As a Result you Pc is in Good Status but Mostly u you should upgrade your pc to i5 or if u dont have enough money overclock your pc to 3Ghz|||Better to wait several years for products that would be shocking to us now. So you better my advice.

i7 is till bit expensive, price will drop when the demand go up.

Current game FPS is not that bad.

If you need to upgrade add another 2GB Ram. Buy a SLI or CROSSFIRE supported MB and plug in 2 graphic cards.|||Didn't expect the nvidia 440 gt to perform that well not bad fps, since that graphic card is a entry level gaming graphic card as well as a few others some ideas might want to upgrade your motherboard and cpu , 4 gb ddr3 ram, and good psu 600watts,and a ati hd 6970 graphic card, check out some asus motherboards at the asustek.com and recommend a intel i5 -2500k

great for overclocking ,better get a liquid cool system installed if overclocking|||I cant be bothered to do prices, but for a good cheapish gaming setup, get like 8gb of fast ddr3 ram, a midrange 1155 motherboard, an i5 2500k, and a gtx 570 altough that might be abit much for you. Your core 2 duo is abit old now for games.|||you can't really get a stronger GPU without upgrading your CPU as well. If you put a GTX 560 in there with a 2.4ghz duo core, your FPS will be the same. Overclock.|||yes.

Graphics problem with my Graphics card?

I got a pc game named dragon age a year ago, and it lagged bad. I got a new graphics card, and made it perfecT High detail and textures didnt lag it up at ALL. I stopped playing for a year, and I installed windows 7, which deleted all files including Dragon Age.

I just installed it back, and i put all my high graphics settings including high texture detail. But now it's lagging, as if its not able to handle it?!?! I need some help!

Also, I forgot the name of my graphics card, but I put stickers on my comp, and they say

    AMD Phenom 64

    Fueled by Saphire, ATI Radeon

    Nvidia

direct x diagnostic tool says my display device is ATI Radeon HD 3400 series

processor is : AMD Phenom 8400 triple-core processor (3 CPUs) 2.1 Ghz~|||The best thing to do right now is to bring it to a Computer Repair Shop near you and have it fix ASAP! so that you Graphics Card will work properly, Believe me when I tell you this, it is worth it to get it repaired before more damage internally.|||`
